2009
It’s that time of year again. We asked our team the following three questions…
- What’s the best thing about summer?
- Your 2009 Glastonbury highlight?
- Your tip for modern living?
Ad…
- Being able to cook outdoors and experience the wonderful scenery in Wales, from Neath Waterfalls to the amazing beaches and costal paths that are on offer
- I missed Glastonbury – I can’t keep up with you kids
- Plan ahead and budget everything. Book all travel in advance and never accept the first offer on anything
Chris…
- Making the most out of every sunny minute – spending more time outdoors than indoors doing stuff that my kids will remember when they are my age. Use the time after work wisely – the long evenings give you a mini weekend every day
- Pendulum absolutely rocked – the crowd went insane. I REALLY wish I was there for that. The Specials made me sing along too
- Fun doesn’t cost much – skip the takeaway and cook some sausages on the beach. Don’t go to the pub but take a bottle of chilled Cava and a picnic blanket on an evening walk. Dust off your bike and check out the Sustrans website for some great traffic free rides. Go wild camping but leave no trace. Take your kids for a walk in the woods
Eugene…
- Ice cool beer in the sun on a warm evening
- Bruce Springsteen (from what I saw on BBC)
- Avoid computers where possible
Matt…
- Long light and warm evenings, walking in the sun to the beach from home – happy days
- Missed it this year – enjoying a family holiday in Wales
- Still working on this one…
Rod…
- BBQs, homemade burgers and a nice chilled glass of white
- To be honest I wasn’t overly impressed with the line up this year and missed Blur, so it’s got to be Dizzy. Bonkers!
- When taking the kids to a Monster Truck Jam and some kind person suggests you take ear plugs – Listen
Sali…
- Beach barbecue’s after work
- Maximo Park. Slim pickings this year
- Life’s too short to iron bed sheets, tea towels and underwear
Timmy…
- BST – British Strongbow Time
- Proposing to my girlfriend overlooking the festival in the Tipi field
- Twitterers shall inherit zilch
Jon…
- Air Conditioning and BBQs with mates
- Michael Jackson popped his clogs just after his pills. Did you know he was number 1 to 9 in the American album charts?
- Decking and Coors Light. (You can drink ‘em when The Rockies turn blue)
JSJ…
- The kids are out of school so that means no traffic jams coming into work in the morning – well, for 6 weeks anyhow!
- Doves headlining the John Peel stage on Friday night – awesome band that never disappoints. Fleet Foxes were very, very good, and I was quite proud of a friend of mine (Mckenzie Smith) who played drums for Regina Spektor on the Pyramid stage on Friday afternoon. Apart from that, I was impressed watching Bruce Springsteen. I’m not a fan but, he was good and I now know why they call him the ‘Boss’
- Buy the new Jason Lytle album. Your ears will thank you for it!
Si…
- What’s summer? I though we only had 2 seasons in the UK – Autumn and Winter
- To be honest TV coverage was all pretty rubbish this year, BBC are televising too many 1 hit wonders that can’t perform live – apparently I’ve got a pretty good chance of making the main stage next with my spoon and triangle act!
- Breathing in and out has worked wonders for me so far. I’ll let you know if anything changes
Rob…
- The weathe…. oh
- Arriving, our bus took nine hours longer than expected… the bus travelled less than quarter of a mile in two hours, luckily we were in a pub three miles away waiting for it to catch us up. Jamie T was good too
- The same as retro living, eat, drink, breathe, sleep… you can play around with the order
James B…
- That odd summer Saturday when the weather is actually good; just sitting out in a beer garden with a cold lager and the sun beating down on you
- Blur
- Microwave burgers; put the burger in the microwave but TOAST the bread in the toaster, to avoid that soggy microwave bap!
James F…
- Slightly less rain than the rest of the year, and long sunny evenings
- Last year, I didn’t see much of Glastonbury – this year I seem to have seen none at all. However, on a music related note, I’ve just discovered Allison Weiss, and I think she’s pretty awesome. She has a Muxtape page, where you can listen to some of her stuff, here: http://allisonweiss.muxtape.com (I like ‘I’m Ready’), and download a free album here: http://allisonw.com/free. You can buy her other albums from that last page, too – or they’re on iTunes / AmazonMP3 /etc. I just bought ‘An Eight-Song Tribute to Feeling Bad & Feeling Better’, and really enjoyed it.
- Stay hungry, stay foolish.
Also, less is more
Unless you’re speaking in a literal sense, in which case more is almost always more
James P
- Looking forward to winter when the sun comes out and it’s a bit dryer!
- When the usual rumours get passed around saying that Mr Jackson has passed away…..nobody believed…
- Get your shopping and films online – save your time for the important things in life!
PdQ…
- The footy transfer market and all the ridiculous/hyped stories that go with it
- Same as last year. When it finished
- Never pay full price for anything. The Internet will save you loads if you’re prepared to look
Scott…
- Going on holiday away from this country.
- From what I saw on TV, Block party looked good
- Conserve energy!
Peter…
- The weather
- Blur and Amadou & Miriam
- Add the three letters “dis” to the word “service” in any corporate department title
